Expertise
Adventure: As a specialist in adventure, the outdoors, wildlife and wilderness, Laura has ridden with Marlboro-smoking gauchos in Patagonia, driven through desert storms in Namibia and white-water rafted down rivers in Costa Rica. She’s seen komodos, gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans and whales in 50+ countries, and hiked trails through the jungles of Borneo and the mountains of Machu Picchu.
Lifestyle: As the editor of an online adventure-lifestyle magazine, Laura has commissioned stories on adventure travel, careers, music, design, food, relationships and work/life balance, collaborating with leading authors, adventurers, podcasters and campaigners to create boundary-pushing content. She came up with a series on modern masculinity and showcased pioneering female adventurers through her Female SOLOists series with Kate Wills.
Solo travel: Solo travel is also a keen interest, having traversed the world independently for much of her career and acted as the editor of an online magazine for solo travellers in their 30s and 40s.
Hotels: She’s got a slightly strange, encyclopedic knowledge of hotels having written a column at The Independent, worked for Mr & Mrs Smith, freelanced for AMAN Resorts and penned reviews for AFAR, i-escape and The Evening Standard.
Food: Laura also likes to write about street-food tours in Palermo, the latest restaurant openings in Athens, Vienna’s eating and drinking hotspots and basically anywhere that serves up a fulsome, fuss-free food
Interviews: For four years at The Independent, Laura interviewed a different celebrity each week for the My Life in Travel profile – everyone from Kevin Mcleod to Joan Collins. She’s also profiled adventurer Levison Wood and activist Mya-Rose Craig (AKA Birdgirl), quizzed the locals of Death Valley on what it’s like to live in the hottest place on Earth and spoken to Antarctic isolation experts.
Brand work: Laura has worked in senior roles for leading brands including Intrepid, Flash Pack, AMAN Resorts, Culture Trip and Mr & Mrs Smith. She’s also worked on special projects with Apple Guides, provided creative direction on £2m marketing campaigns and penned branded pieces for the likes of AMEX.
