Expertise

Lifestyle:

As the editor of an online magazine, Laura commissioned varied stories covering careers, music, design, food, relationships and work/life balance. She worked with authors Georgina Lawton & Max Dickins; adventurers Charlie Walker, Jenny Tough & Jessica Nabongo; podcasters Francesca Specter & Jeanette Bonner; and campaigners Haroon Mota, Harisson Ward & Ben Akers. In short, creative, boundary-pushing content is what she does best. She came up with series on male friendship and mental health, and showcased pioneering female adventurers through her partnership with Kate Wills. This was one of her favourites

Travel & Adventure:

Nature, the outdoors, wildlife and wilderness – these are the things that make Laura tick. She’s travelled to far-flung corners and 50+ countries, in search of komodo dragons, gorillas, whales and wild landscapes. She’s been surfing, diving, canyoning, cycling, hiking, horse-back riding and white-water rafting. She’s written multi-article, standalone supplements on Borneo and Tuscan adventure travel for National Geographic. And she’s got a slightly strange, encyclopedic knowledge of hotels having written a column on them for four years at The Independent and then worked for Mr & Mrs Smith. Solo travel is also a keen interest having traversed the world independently for much of her 15-year career.

Interviews:

For four years at The Independent, Laura interviewed a different celebrity each week for the My Life in Travel profile. That’s 208 actors, musicians, sportspeople, designers, artists and chefs in as many weeks. It’s how she came to chat with everyone from Kevin Mcleod to Joan Collins. She’s also sat down with actors Ruth Wilson and MacKenzie Crook for local lifestyle magazines and has profiled the likes of adventurer Levison Wood, artist Lionel Smit and activist Mya-Rose Craig (AKA Birdgirl). She’s also quizzed the locals of Death Valley on what it’s like to live in the hottest place on Earth, found out how to cope with covid isolation from an author who wrote her novel alone in the Falklands and unearthed the secret to classic coal-pot cooking from local Tobago legend “Aunty Alison”.

Brand Work:

Laura has worked in senior roles for a host of leading brands, including Culture Trip, Mr & Mrs Smith and Flash Pack. She’s also worked on special projects with Apple Guides, creating a content series that surpassed 11m views. She’s provided creative direction on £2m marketing campaigns. She’s penned branded-content pieces for the likes of AMEX and AMAN, as part of her ongoing partnership with the luxury hotel brand. All things told, she’s written every conceivable piece of marketing copy over the years, including social posts, newsletter sends, website write ups, entire site migrations and landing pages.

Food:

After all that, Laura is usually pretty hungry. In fact, she’s always hungry. So, she also likes to write about street-food tours in Palermo, the latest restaurant openings in Athens, Viennese eating and drinking hotspots and basically anywhere that serves up a fulsome, fuss-free food.
